Walter Robbins

The Man Who Started It All

Walter Robbins started this business in the late 1950s with a single truck and a straightforward goal: do good work and treat people right. That spirit shaped everything we do, and it continues today, two generations later.

1959

Walter Robbins drove his wife, Haroldine Robbins, to work, dropped her off, then traded their family car for a pickup truck. Robbins Nursery was born.

1960s

Robbins Nursery & Landscape Service graded, seeded, and planted thousands of homes across Hampton Roads.

1990

Focus shifted to landscaping work across Williamsburg, Richmond, Washington, D.C., and Maryland.

1991

Acquired our current Chesapeake location and began making steady improvements.

1999

Walter and Mark Robbins (father and son) transitioned the business from landscaping to bulk material sales. We purchased our first topsoil screener.

2011

Bought our first grinder to begin processing mulch.

2016

Upgraded to a Diamond Z 1463B tub grinder to boost output and efficiency.

2018

Continued growth with another grinder, additional dump trucks, and ongoing equipment upgrades, all to keep quality high and pricing fair.
